The PhotoMD Philosophy
Respectful Restoration • Preservation Before Perfection • Established 2003
PhotoMD was created from a simple belief: old photographs are more than images. They are pieces of
personal history, family memory, and emotional connection. Many are irreplaceable.
The goal of PhotoMD is not simply to "enhance" photographs, but to respectfully restore and preserve
them while maintaining the authenticity, character, and identity of the original image.
“The goal is to restore the photograph — not reinvent the person.”
Preservation Before Beautification
PhotoMD restoration work emphasizes realism and restraint. Whenever possible, original facial
structure, expression, age, hairstyle, and historical character are preserved.
The objective is not to create artificial perfection or exaggerated AI-generated appearances, but to
respectfully recover what time, damage, fading, or deterioration have taken away.
Human Judgment Matters
Modern AI tools can be extremely helpful, and they are often incorporated into the restoration process.
However, no automated system can fully replace human judgment when dealing with damaged faces,
missing details, severe tears, historical photographs, or emotionally important family images.
Every restoration is approached individually using a combination of professional software, archival
workflows, and manual craftsmanship.
Honesty and Realistic Expectations
Not every photograph can be fully restored. Some images may be too blurred, too damaged, or
missing too much information for realistic recovery.
PhotoMD believes in honest communication regarding what can and cannot be achieved. If a
photograph is determined to be unrecoverable, there is no charge for evaluation.A Satisfaction-First Approach
PhotoMD follows a satisfaction-based philosophy whenever possible. Clients may receive a preview of
the completed restoration before final payment.
The intention is simple: clients should feel confident, comfortable, and respected throughout the
restoration process.
A Boutique Restoration Studio
PhotoMD is intentionally designed as a small, carefully managed restoration studio rather than a
high-volume image-processing service.
This allows time for careful attention, communication, and thoughtful craftsmanship without sacrificing
quality for speed.
Technology in Service of Memory
PhotoMD uses modern restoration technologies not to replace history, but to help preserve it.
Whether restoring family portraits, memorial photographs, military images, tintypes, cabinet cards, or
damaged heirlooms, the purpose remains the same: to help families reconnect with important moments
and people from their past.
